Alcohol: 14.5%

Grape(s): 100% Nebbiolo

Localization: Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

Tasting Notes: Serralunga d’Alba is present in this wine with signs of licorice, spices, and dark fruits. Cherry, currant and blueberry melt harmoniously together. Velvety and sweetly ripe, with splendidly integrated tannins. San Rocco gives an impression of great power austerity, with an incredible aging potential. Pure complexity. A strong character. Monumental.

94 points Decanter: Fermented with its indigenous yeast and macerated for 40 days with a submerged cap, then aged in large oak casks for 24 months. The fruit is restrained, cherry kernel-like, with sweet violet, balsamic hints and rhubarb minerality. Savoury on the palate, it shows velvety tannins of significant extraction with long-lasting acidity. A wine focused on the roots rather than on the fruits; restrained, mineral and of great austere elegance.

The Domain: Azienda Agricola Azelia is an Italian family-owned estate, based in Castiglione Falletto and best known for its range of single-vineyard Barolo wines.

The estate has been producing wine since the early 20th Century, and now has around 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards in Castiglione Fallett, Serralunga d'Alba and Montelupo Albese. These are mainly populated with old vines producing a low yields of small, concentrated berries. A majority of which are Nebbiolo, but holdings also include plantings of Dolcetto and Barbera of which both feature as varietals wines in the collection.
