Tasting Notes: Roses and exotic tea notes and a distinctly saline nose. Fabulous intensity. Some clay and salty notes clearly accompany the plummy fruit with aspects of sage and dried herbs.  The clay terroir comes through in spades on the palate too, with more Serralunga tannin and a greater weight of fruit.  Absolutely textbook with an assuredly dry but balanced structure.  Superb presence and depth – masses of character and fuller of body with that chalky, saline note of the nose resonating on the lengthy finish.

96 points Decanter: Luigi and Lorenzo Scavino prolong the maceration for up to 60 days and aging in botti for 30 months. This Margheria is thus more concentrated, big, and powerful compared to other examples. There's a freshness of sweet violet on the nose, with licorice, smoky woodland notes, and a slightly bloody pomegranate core. The long acid is tightly knit with velvety tannins. Graceful and powerful, the palate is soaked with the wine's floral character and austere on the finish – which is normal at this stage. A great wine in a great vintage.

The Domain: Azienda Agricola Azelia is an Italian family-owned estate, based in Castiglione Falletto and best known for its range of single-vineyard Barolo wines.

The estate has been producing wine since the early 20th Century, and now has around 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards in Castiglione Fallett, Serralunga d'Alba and Montelupo Albese. These are mainly populated with old vines producing a low yields of small, concentrated berries. A majority of which are Nebbiolo, but holdings also include plantings of Dolcetto and Barbera of which both feature as varietals wines in the collection.
