Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): 100% Montepulciano
Localization: Abruzzo, Italy
Tasting Notes: Robust and full-bodied in the mouth, slightly tannin-rich with a dry and flavourful finish. Delicate aromas of plum and morello cherry.
Notes: The vineyards from which we obtain the grapes are located predominantly in the provinces of Chieti and Teramo. The most widespread training system in the Abruzzo Region is the tendone, which is known for being a fairly productive system. Where it is used with the correct balance, it can yield grapes of excellent quality. Maceration for a maximum of ten days, in steel fermenting vats, followed first by alcoholic and then malolactic fermentation.
Food pairing: Pasta with meat sauces, roast white and red meat, chicken and rabbit chasseur, mixed grills.
The Domain: The Umani Ronchi story is one of ancient vines, land, and people. It began more than half a century ago at Cuprmontana, in the ehart of Verdicchio Classico country, and has spread further. Today, Umani Ronchi is owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, who since 1959 have been making superb quality craft wines, coaxing the best out of the Verdicchio and Montepulciano grapes that find their finest expression in the Marche and Abruzzo regions. For over ten years, Umani Ronchi has been a member of the Istituto del Vino di Qualità - Grandi Marchi, which unites over nineteen of Italy’s greatest wine brands. Umani Ronchi continues to be family-run with Michele Bernetti at the helm, and his father, Massimo, acting as chair.
The vineyards, which are between eight and thirty years old and trained on the Guyot system, are situated on the band of hillside between 200 and 350 meters above sea level, on opposite sides of the Esino valley. The soils go back to pleiocene‐pleistocene formations, and are characterised by being very deep, medium‐calcareous clay loams. The yield of the vineyards never exceeds 7 tons per hectare.
