Pala Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva 2017

Grapes: Cannonau 100%

Vinification, Maturation, Ageing: manual harvest in the very early morning. Maceration on the skins at controlled temperature for ten days. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation the malolactic one takes place and then the refinement for twelve months in three thousand liters French oak barrels followed by three more months in stainless steel vats and four more in bottle.

Tasting notes: dark ruby red, almost impenetrable, intense notes of little red fruits, blackberry and red cherry jam, together with fine spicy notes. Smooth, elegant tannins, full body, enveloping. Long finish.

Matching and service: Grilled or braised red meats; savoury, spicy main courses, seasoned cheeses.

“($31) Raspberry preserves and sweet autumnal spices offset by dried citrus peels and incense form a seductive display on the 2017 Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva. This is silky-smooth and polished in feel, gaining tension through mineral-tinged tart black fruits and savory herbal notes. It’s youthfully structured and poised, yet with enough primary concentration and balancing acidity to reward medium-term cellaring. This dark beauty will need a few more years to fully come together, but it will surely be worth the wait. Drink: 2023-2028. 93 points.” –Eric Guido, Vinous, Mar. 2021
