Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): Chardonnay
Localization: Côte de Beaune, Burgundy, France
Tasting Notes: Ripe and very fresh aromas are composed by notes of citrus confit, green apple and suggestions of mineral reduction. The succulent, even opulent, medium weight flavors possess both good volume and punch that carries over to the dry, lemony and impressively long finish. This is also lovely and a wine that should amply repay mid-term cellaring.
The Domain: This husband and wife team is located in the hamlet of Gamay nestled between Puligny Montrachet and St. Aubin. In close proximity to the Grand Crus, Domaine Sylvain Langoureau is made up of numerous small parcels totaling 8.5 hectares. Owners of plots in St. Aubin, Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne, Sylvain and Nathalie's vines are planted to 75% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir and 10% Aligoté.
Everything here is done by hand and with great care. Vines are pruned to a maximum of five shoots for naturally low yields. No treatments are performed in the vineyard past mid-July and the Langoureau family is experimenting with cover grass in certain parcels to promote root competition and to minimize erosion.
The winery is essentially a garage and a cellar. Sylvain vinifies his reds in the stainless steel tanks in the garage and ages them in the cellar that is packed with barrels of fermenting and ageing white wines. These wines are elegant gems and very limited.
