Alcohol: 12.5%
Grape(s): 100% Gamay Saint-Romain
Location: Côte Roannaise, Loire Valley, France
Tasting Notes: Bright and lifted, Les Blondins 2023 bursts with wild strawberry, red cherry, and crushed raspberry. The fruit is vivid and pure, framed by delicate floral notes of violet and peony. On the palate, it’s juicy and energetic, with silky tannins and a subtle mineral tension that hints at the granite soils beneath. A whisper of white pepper and dried herbs adds savory complexity, while the finish is clean, mouthwatering, and refreshingly tart.
Notes: This vintage showcases the finesse of high-altitude Gamay grown on volcanic granite. It’s vinified with minimal intervention, allowing the terroir to speak clearly. The wine is unfiltered, vibrant, and alive—perfect for lovers of natural expression and Loire Valley charm.
Food pairing: Ideal with charcuterie, roast chicken, lentil salad, or grilled vegetables. Its freshness and gentle tannins make it a versatile companion to both rustic and refined fare.
The Domain: Located in Renaison, in the Côte Roannaise, a little-known appellation, the Domaine de Sérol impresses with the quality of its wines. A vineyard that has long had a relationship with the famous Troisgros family, a line of starred chefs in Roanne.
Carine and Stéphane Sérol, a very welcoming couple, took over the family vineyard in 2000 and now has 27 Ha. They knew how to modernize the cellar (see photos) and tend towards biodynamic viticulture full of promise. The winegrowers vinify the vintages by plot (plot selection) to best express their different terroirs.
Éclat de Granit, vinified at 50% in whole bunches and aged in vats, comes from Gamay Saint-Romain (a rare grape variety) based on a granite terroir.
