Origin: From the ancient Burgundian Charmes meant a cultivated field or recovered with Charmes’ wood. The soil contents lots of iron which was shipped in the past to Langres to made knife. Domaine Amiot has had this appellation for 4 generations.

Terroir: This climat is situated in Gevrey Chambertin above the CHAMBERTIN. It also spreads on the Mazoyères-Chambertin. Its vines grow on brown soil with a lot of clay, lava and iron, at altitude 260m. In the Domaine Amiot, the Charmes-Chambertin is divided into 2 parcels. Since 2012 we have been increasing our production by buying some extra harvest in order to reach a best expression of terroir with a reasonable volume.

Viticulture, vinification, barrel aging: From the vineyard to the winery, each operation is adapted to the vintage to make the best wines possible and to fully express the parcels’ terroir. 50% of new oak barrels are used for the aging process.
