Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): Chardonnay
Localization: Maconnais, Burgundy, France
Tasting notes: Aromas of vanilla and tropical fruit indicate good maturity, underscored by an overall nose that is intense and fairly remarkable. After a forthright attack, one can appreciate a slightly honeyed length, but one without residual sugars that results in great fleshiness on the finish.
Food pairing: Given this wine's liveliness on the tongue, opt for a rich appetizer like a creamy leek soup or risotto verrine.
The Domain: Located in the very heart of Burgundy, the members of the family Lemonier have handed down their estate from generation to generation for the past two centuries.
Mâcon La Roche-Vineuse is an appellation in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy. It covers the communes of La Roche-Vineuse, Chevagny-les-Chevrieres, and Hurigny. The title covers white wines produced exclusively from the Chardonnay grape variety.
The village of La Roche-Vineuse was previously known as Saint-Sorlin, after a third-century bishop of Toulouse. Some of the earliest documented references to the Gamay and Chardonnay grapes from the late 1600s are made with respect to Saint-Sorlin. During the French revolution, many religious place names were given secular alternatives, and thus La Roche-Vineuse came into use. This name was formally adopted in 1908.
