The Domain: Domaine du Clos des Rocs has a fascinating story! It's located in the Mâconnais region of Burgundy, France, and is run by Olivier Giroux, who took over the estate in 2002. The estate spans 13 hectares across the appellations of Pouilly-Loché and Pouilly-Fuissé. Olivier comes from a long line of winemakers, and he has continued the tradition with a commitment to organic farming. He converted the entire estate to organic practices, although he chose not to pursue official certification. The vineyards are known for their limestone-clay soils with iron-rich topsoils and limestone pebbles, which contribute to the unique mineral character of the wines.
Olivier's approach to winemaking is minimalistic, using indigenous yeasts for fermentation and avoiding chemical products. The wines are aged in both wood barrels and stainless-steel tanks, and they remain on their fine lees until bottling.
The estate is particularly known for its expressive Chardonnay wines, which showcase the terroir beautifully. Olivier's dedication to quality and respect for the land has made Domaine du Clos des Rocs a standout in the Mâconnais region.
