Alcohol: 12.5%
Grape(s): 100% Cabernet Franc
Localization: Loire Valley, France
Tasting Notes: Light and airy, with bright acidity and flavors of red cherry, crushed raspberry, cassis, and wild herbs. The tannins are dry but balanced, resulting in a medium to long, refreshing finish.
Notes: Farmed entirely biodynamically, these grapes are harvested from 50-year-old vines. After fermentation, the wine is vinified in barriques and kept in wood for a year, then bottled the following December. The wine sees no added sulfur.
The Domain: Catherine & Pierre Breton are passionate winemakers from the Loire Valley, France, known for their dedication to organic and biodynamic viticulture. Their winery, founded in 1982, produces Cabernet Franc wines from Chinon and Bourgueil, as well as Chenin Blanc for their Vouvray.
The Bretons have been pioneers in the natural wine movement, embracing organic farming in 1991 and biodynamic practices in 1994. Their vineyards span varied soil types, including gravel, limestone, clay, schist, and yellow tuffeau, which contribute to the complexity of their wines. They divide their wines into three categories: Natural Wines (for easy drinking), Classic Wines (representing the typicity of the appellations), and Wines of Terroir (vinified by parcel for long aging).
Pierre is the principal cellar master, while Catherine creates a special series of cuvées under the label “La Dilettante”. Their commitment to minimal intervention winemaking has made them international icons in the natural wine world.
