Alcohol: %
Grape(s): 100% Gamay Noir
Location: Beaujolais, France
Tasting Notes: Aromas of fresh red cherries, raspberries, and strawberries. Supple, juicy palate with bright acidity and light tannins. Notes of sour cherry (“griottes”), cranberry, and hints of spice.
Notes: “Les Griottes” literally means sour cherry, reflecting the wine’s fruit-forward style. Made using semi-carbonic maceration, a hallmark of Beaujolais Nouveau. Produced from sustainably farmed vineyards on dark granite soils.
Food pairing: Roast chicken, charcuterie, pizza, and pasta with tomato-based sauces. Works beautifully with Thanksgiving fare (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce). Chill slightly for a refreshing aperitif-style red.
Winery Story: Pierre et Marie Chermette’s winery, now known as Famille Chermette, is a historic Beaujolais estate with roots dating back to 1636, when it was first recorded under the name Domaine du Vissoux. Situated in the southern Beaujolais region, the domaine has grown over generations, firmly tied to the Pierres Dorées area and its winemaking traditions.
In 1982, Pierre-Marie Chermette took over and, with his wife Martine, transformed the estate into one of the most respected names in Beaujolais. He championed minimal-intervention winemaking, using indigenous yeasts, long fermentations, and rejecting added sugar, while expanding vineyards across prestigious crus like Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, and Brouilly.
Their son Jean-Etienne joined in 2017, ushering in a new era and broadening the estate’s identity under the name Domaines Chermette. Today, the family produces a wide range of wines—white, rosé, red, sparkling, and even fruit liqueurs—celebrated for their authenticity, texture, and strong sense of terroir.
From its 17th-century beginnings to its modern reputation, Famille Chermette embodies a legacy of tradition, innovation, and sustainability, standing as a benchmark for Beaujolais winemaking.
