The Domain:
Angela Quiblier (from Jura) and Hugo Foizel (from Aube, Champagne) met while studying oenology in Dijon. Their combined experience spans legendary estates like Romanée-Conti, Comte Georges de Vogüé, Domaine Leroy, and Thibault Liger-Belair.
They first co-managed the innovative Domaine des Jeunes Pousses, a 5.2-hectare project designed to empower young winemakers.
Birth of Obora
In 2021, they founded Domaine Obora in Chénas, in the Beaujolais region.
The name “Obora” blends their roots: Aube + Beaujolais + Jura. They farm 6 hectares organically, with Gamay as the beating heart of their reds and Chardonnay/Viognier for whites.
Minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentations, whole-cluster maceration, no fining or filtration.
Low sulfur: just 1g/hl added before bottling.
Vessels: mostly enamel-coated steel or concrete—Angela famously says, “I’m not that into wood”.
