Tasting Notes: Rossese Di Dolceacqua is a rare red grape, found in tiny pockets along the Mediterrean coast of Liguria in Italy and France's Provence. In past vintages this has sometimes been a heartier red, but they've begun picking the grapes a bit sooner for a more vibrant and bright red. Along with great notes of damson plum and raspberries is the mix of herbs of coastal Italy. A stunning wine and a unique experience.

Notes: The wine comes from two tiny vineyards within the designation of Cian. One was planted in 1965 and the other in 1990. The Rossese vine is grown from a sapling (as the Mediterranean tradition dictates), so that the foliage of the plant shadows its roots and protects them from overheating.

Food pairing: Her wines pair beautifully with game birds, cheeses, charcuterie, and the olive oil produced from the adjacent groves.

The Domain: Danila Pisano is a dedicated winemaker from the picturesque region of Dolceaqua in Liguria, Italy. She founded her estate in 1990 with the goal of restoring her family's ancient property, which includes vineyards and olive groves. Danila is committed to organic farming and has been certified organic since 1996.

Danila's vineyards are situated at an altitude of 150-250 meters, with terraced plots supported by traditional stone walls. These methods promote ventilation and keep the grapes healthy. The estate focuses on the Rossese di Dolceaqua grape, a variety native to Western Liguria. The wines produced here are known for their charm, with ruby red hues and delicate aromas of rose, violet, and currants.

Winemaking Philosophy

Danila follows a non-interventionist approach in the cellar, avoiding the addition of yeast and allowing fermentation to occur naturally in stainless steel. The high-altitude vineyard, Vigneto Savoia, enjoys better exposure and more sunshine, resulting in wines that are weightier and higher in alcohol.
