Tasting Notes: This wine has a lot of open, appealing blackcurrant Cabernet fruit with balanced ripe tannins on the finish. It has good length and less oak than the norm. It is a well-made wine.
The Domain: Château La Tour de By - The situation of these vineyards is quite stunning, overlooking the Gironde estuary. The gravel soil of the area forces the vines to set down deep roots and the wines are extremely consistent with quality fruit being the key. Cousins Frédéric Le Clerc and Benjamin Richer des Forges have 94 hectares under vine at La Tour de By, and produce excellent full-flavoured wines with lovely aromatics which develop further with extended bottle age. This is very traditionally styled Médoc.
