Alcohol: 10%
Grape(s): Riesling
Localization: Mosel, Germany
Tasting notes: Subtle aromas of crushed stone and pine lend savory, spicy nuances to this medium-sweet Riesling. A slightly earthen expression of the Mosel offers zippy lime and lemon flavors followed by a murmur of bitters on the finish.
Food pairing: An excellent choice to enjoy with spicy Asian cuisine.
The Domain: Schloss Saarstein is located on a steep slope hill of grey slate, surrounded by the 11 hectares vineyard sites, overlooking the Saar River. The estate owner Christian Ebert takes care of cellar and vineyard all by himself. His wines take profit from the cool microclimate on the Saar and sustainable farming methods.
It is important to Christian Ebert that every vintage tastes different. But a clear profile is even more important to him. His wines are types. And those with character, because they are real Saar wines! Near-natural viticulture is practiced at Saarstein Castle, but without a certificate, because Ebert always wants to leave a few options open. He categorically rejects artificial fertilizers and insecticides.
The age of the vines is particularly important to him. The age defines the quality, then it is decided which batch becomes which wine. Almost all work in the vineyard has to be done by hand due to the extreme location. The caterpillar is a great relief and Christian Ebert does everything to be able to drive on more plots in the future, but the Saarstein remains a steep slope. And that means hand! – work!
