The Domain: The Chateau Moncontour Vineyard is one of the oldest in the Loire Valley. It belonged to the ARCHBISHOPRIC OF TOURS at the time of Saint Martin. It has always aroused passions including that of Balzac who proclaimed "MONCONTOUR IS MY PREDILECTION!" In his letter to Madame Hanska.  Today the estate is made up of 130 hectares in the Vouvray, Cremant de Loire and Touraine appellations.

Since 1994, with passion and commitment, the Feray family has managed to preserve and embellish this castle to make it one of the remarkable historical sites of the Loire Valley.

The vineyard, one of the oldest in Touraine, is today ranked among the most prestigious wine estates in the Loire Valley. The estate runs over 130 hectares across the hillside and the valley.

Partly burned down during the French Revolution, the building was rehabilitated; then, in 1846, the Touraine writer Honoré de Balzac wished to acquire it, desired it in vain, to live there with his fervent admirer and wife Evelyne Hanska.

On June 10, 1846, he wrote to his wife and one could read in this letter the famous formula: "Moncontour is my predilection".
