Tasting Notes: The Domaine Nudant Vosne-Romanée is a brilliant vintage for Burgundy, showcasing the best potential of every village. This wine has a bright ruby color and offers notes of bramble and blackberry, with both red and dark cherries. The complexity is staggering, with hints of white pepper, wet forest floor, sautéed mushrooms, and warm cinnamon bark from the oak.
Food pairing: This wine is ideal with dishes like rack of lamb with herb crust, smoked mackerel rillettes, grilled pork, roasted chicken, braised beef, roasted vegetables, and flavor-rich cheeses like Roquefort.
The Domain: Domaine Nudant has a rich history that dates back to 1453 when Guillaume Nudant was already a vinegrower in Aloxe Corton. The estate saw significant development in the 1950s under André Nudant, who expanded the vineyard. His son, Jean-René, joined the business in 1978, and 25 years later, Guillaume took over from his father.
The vineyard covers 16 hectares (39.5 acres) across Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits, offering 17 appellations ranging from regional to Villages, 1er Crus, and Grands Crus. The Aloxe Corton "Les Valozieres" 2022 is a fine wine marked by its terroir, with a stony ground that gives it a big mouthfeel yet remains silky. The wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes, with vines averaging 70 years old.
The winery practices sustainable farming and was certified HVE in 2019. The wine undergoes traditional winemaking techniques, including hand-picking grapes, cold pre-fermentation maceration, and aging in oak barrels. The result is a firm, full-bodied wine with opulent aromas of black fruits, flowers, honey, and grilled almonds.
