Alcohol: 14%
Grape(s): 50% Montepulciano, 35% Syrah and 15% Merlot
Localization: Lazio, Italy
Tasting Notes: Bouquet of crushed rose petals contrasted with meaty, metallic notes of beef carpaccio, topsoil, and cranberries. The balance continues on the palate, where berries, vanilla, and chocolate add to the sweetness. The tannins are crunchy, and the acidity is buoyant.
Food pairing: The meaty notes suggest it would complement red meats well. Try it with a classic beef steak, lamb chops, or even a rich beef bourguignon. Or opt for aged cheeses that can stand up to the wine’s complexity. Aged cheddar, gouda, or parmesan would be excellent choices.
With hints of chocolate in the wine, a dark chocolate dessert could be a delightful pairing.
The Domain: The Tenimenti Leone winery has a fascinating story, especially with their Capomunni Red wine from the Roma region. The winery itself is located in Central Italy and is known for producing wine from both indigenous and international grapes under the Roma DOC and Lazio IGP designations. Interestingly, before the Veronesi family acquired the property in 2015, the 75-hectare vineyard had been maintained by monks as an organic fruit and vegetable farm
