Grape(s): Pinot Meunier

Localization: Gueux, Champagne, France

Tasting Notes: Jérôme Prévost has the magic touch when it comes to expressing the full potential of Meunier in rich, vinous Champagnes full of character.

Notes: The harvest was a virtual write-off for Jerome Prevost, with heavy frosts obliterating his already low-yielding plots.

This new cuveé was the result of the man scrambling to produce something from that disaster harvest. This cuveé blends multiple plots of Meunier from around his home region - most of which are farmed by Prevost and his team with a small amount farmed by local growers and picked to Prevost's exacting standards.

It's a wine that allows the winemaker to experiment outside of his own small production. Rich and toasty with a small amount of reserve wine from the harvest included, this low-dosage Pinot Meunier is brilliant to drink and a peek into the world of one of Champagne's finest and most creative minds.

The Domain: Jerome Prevost is a pint-sized artisan Champagne grower based in Gueux.

Prevost was encouraged to start vinifying his small inherited plot by Anselme Selosse, one of the most important figures in modern Champagne. Prevost made his first cuvées alongside Selosse until 2003 and has developed a similar style, producing focused, intensely vinous cuveés with very low levels of dosage.

Though these are not vintage releases, per se, a single harvest forms the basis of each wine and is indicated on the label: e.g. LC19 indicating "LC" number (Lot Consigné) 2019 vintage.

The wines are based on super low-yielding Pinot Meunier predominantly - regarded by many as some of the region's finest expressions of the variety.
