Groix & Nature is the last active cannery on the island of Groix, which has a rich history of canning that dates back over 150 years. At the beginning of the 20th century, Groix was the leading tuna fishing port in France, with more than 300 boats dedicated to fishing albacore tuna. The canneries played a crucial role in preserving the tuna, as it was not sold fresh at that time.
In the 1930s and 1950s, there were five canneries operating on the island: Romieux, Tristan-Calloch, Jégo, Kersaho, and Orvoën. The Orvoën cannery was the last to close its doors in 1979. Groix & Nature has been dedicated to preserving this island culinary tradition for nearly 20 years, offering authentic and refined recipes.
The island of Groix itself is a beautiful and unique place, with a rich history and natural landscapes that captivate visitors. The island's culinary heritage is deeply intertwined with its history, making Groix & Nature an important part of the island's identity.
