Notes: The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a blend of 13 grape varieties authorized for the appellation: Grenache noir, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Terret Noir, Cinsault, Picpoul Noir, Counoise and Grenache Blanc, Grenache Gris, Clairette (Blanche and rose), Bourboulenc, Roussane, Picardan. The harvest is manual without destemming, at full maturity of each grape variety. Sorting of the grapes is careful. Filtration is done naturally by decantation without adding yeasts for fermentation. The aging lasts 24 months in oak barrels.
The Domain: Domaine du Banneret is a five hectares small family property located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley. From a confidential production, only 13,000 bottles are available each year. Audrey and Jean-Claude Vidal produce two cuvées: a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape vinified according to ancestral methods and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape whose production does not exceed 2,000 bottles. The vines are old, they produce low yields but of high quality. The average age of the vineyard is 70 years, the old vines are regularly replaced by new plans while respecting the original complantation. The vineyard is managed with respect for nature thanks to the use of organic composts. The nine plots are located on different localities, the production therefore comes from a very varied terroir.
