Tasting Notes: Classic transparency of Pinot noir, dark brick red. Subtle aroma of cherries, red berries, raspberry preserves, sage, violets, a little bitter almond. The juicy and elegant palate is characterised by ripe raspberries, rosehip infusions, and Mediterranean herbs, some black tea, and licorice. The arc of acidity is almost seamless, providing the rounded body with an elegant frame and highlighting the fine tannins. Delicious length.
Notes: Selective hand harvest at the end of September and on October 7th, 65% destemmed and crushed, 30% whole berries, and 5% whole bunches. Cold maceration at 8°C for five days; 100% spontaneous fermentation in open vats, pressed after 10 days of fermenting. Maturation in barriques for eighteen months, 30% in new oak, 40% second filling, and the rest third fillings.
Food pairing: Veal roast, leg of lamb with thyme and lemon, grilled vegetables provençal, wild fowl such as pheasant or duck.
The Domain: Heinrich Hartl III and his wife Marie-Sophie run their charming family winery with 16 hectares of vineyards in the Thermenregion wine region south of Vienna. Their training and experience in the wine industry culminated in a focus on achieving the highest quality. Thus, they deliberately decided to remain relatively small in order to focus on their single vineyard sites. The vineyard area is only enlarged when historic vineyards with unique characteristics become available. In a climate where cool and warm influences converge, the talented winemakers produce both white and red wines of great potential: elegant reds from Pinot Noir and Sankt Laurent and old Austrian white varieties such as Rotgipfler, Zierfandler, and Traminer, which have been thriving in this area for centuries. With a sense of modesty and great respect for nature, Marie and Heinrich's top priority is to farm as sustainably as possible. For this reason, production has been certified organic since 2022. Lively, elegant and profound, the Hartl wines are also destined to age. With a modern approach, the two continue to work in harmony with the region's cultural heritage and warmly welcome guests from all over the world to their homestead. Heinrich Hartl has been a "Traditionsweingüter Österreich" member since 2022 and is also chairman of the Regional Wine Committee Thermenregion. He has made it his goal with his colleagues to lead his home region to the forefront of Austria's winegrowing regions once again.
