Grape(s): 100% Chardonnay

Tasting Notes: The Chardonnay Freedom Hill nose has an unusual aromatic density, with fresh-cut hay, peach compote, peeled almonds, dried ginger, and hints of savory. These dimensions morph on your palate into flavors of lemon curd, quince, gingerbeer, and peach pie. There is a lot of width and complexity, so much so that I pause to think about the experience. The finish is unusually long and balanced with fruit-driven sweet acidity. There is a lot here, and watching it develop over the next six to eight years should be rewarding.

Food pairing: Rich white meat, vegetarian, and pasta dishes with complex sauces and rich flavors

The Domain: Innocent Winery has a fascinating story rooted in family tradition and a passion for wine. Founded in 1988 by Mark Vlossak in Oregon's Willamette Valley, the winery has become known for producing exceptional wines, particularly Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling.

Mark's journey into the world of wine began at a young age, influenced by his father, a wine educator and importer. After moving to Oregon in 1980, Mark decided to pursue winemaking, inspired by the potential he saw in the region's vineyards1. Over the years, St. Innocent Winery has gained recognition for its commitment to crafting wines that reflect the unique terroir of the Willamette Valley.

Today, under Mark's leadership, the winery continues to thrive, with a focus on sustainable practices and producing wines that pair beautifully with food. The estate vineyard was planted in 2018, and the first harvest is expected in 2021. Mark's daughter, Makenzie, is also involved in the winery, learning the craft to eventually take over the reins.
