Tasting Notes: Very aromatic with intense notes of cherry, strawberry and violet for gravel soil wines; raspberry, blackberry and spices, evolving to notes of leather and roast meat for the clay soils.
Notes: This cuvee is produced from the “Grand Mont” vineyard on the upper slopes, considered among the finest in Bourgueil. The Cabernet Franc, known locally as“Breton” grows on a thick layer of “tuffeau” (limestone mixed with clay). Bruno Dufeu’s vineyard has an average age of 50 years and he severely prunes them to insure low yields and ripe fruit. The grapes are de-stemmed and then fermented in stainless steel vats. The maceration lasts between ten days and two weeks and M. Dufeu uses a gentle method of extraction to produce a wine of fine tannins and elegance that is nonetheless able to age well.
The Domain: Located in the AOC Bourgueil, in Benais, the vineyard makes the Cabernet Franc grape variety flourish by giving one of the most structured wines of the appellation. It was during the time of Saint Martin de Tours (4th century) that the vine was established, developed from the year 990 by the monks of the Abbey of Bourgueil. The Bourgueil appellation, which has existed since 1937 under a controlled designation of origin, covers 1,400 hectares on the right bank of the Loire (between Tours and Saumur) and over 7 municipalities in the department: Benais, Bourgueil, Chouzé-sur- Loire, Ingrandes-de-Touraine, La Chapelle-sur-Loire, Restigné and Saint-Patrice. Cabernet Franc reigns supreme over two main terroirs and is complemented by Sauvignon.
