Location: Brouilly, Beaujolais, France

Tasting Notes: Ruby red color. Red berries nose (strawberry and raspberry). The palate is smooth and round. Mellow tannins

Notes: Semi-carbonic maceration. Temperature control during maceration and after pressing until the end of the alcoholic fermentation. Punching, unloading, pumping over. The press is set at a low pressure (2 bars maximum). After the fermentation, there is an extended maceration for 10-12 days.

Food pairing: Bresse chicken, hamburger, FOR VEGAN: veggie couscous, roasted eggplants or grilled vegetables lasagna

The Domain: In 1870 Laurent Sandrin, the first winegrower of the family, moved to Blacé in Beaujolais and produced his first cuvée, starting a long story of winemaking in the family. His son decided to take over the estate but the war was on France's borders and he was sent to the frontlines in 1915 to repel the Germans. During an assault, he received shrapnel on his face and lost an eye, so he was repatriated and was able to resume his family's activity. It is "thanks" to this event that the history of the family has been able to continue.

How I started to work with Domaine de la Côte de Berne
I always loved Gamay and cru of Beaujolais. My first wine making experience was in the Côtes de Brouilly and I really enjoy the diversity of the different cru in Beaujolais.
Being in the Loire valley, I was not often in this area. I was concentrated in Loire valley wines but I meet Rémy in Blois during a wine show. First I enjoyed the Etincelle de Gamay, I thought right away about some of my distributors for it.
I asked Rémy if he was already exporting his wines but he was not. I went few weeks later to meet him at the winery, we tasted again the whole line which I really enjoyed and we started to work together.
