Tasting Notes: "Franck Pascal’s NV champagne, "Fluence" Brut Nature, brings the pursuit of perfection in winemaking to another level. The perfect grower Champagne from one of the most meticulous natural winemakers that we know. Think fresh, elegant, and pure - just delicious! A classic blend of Chardonnay (19%), Pinot Noir (26%) and Pinot Meunier (54%), this is a magnificent Champagne with defined fruit notes, true to Franck’s signature style. This zero-dosage Champagne holds great freshness and minerality."
The Domain: Isabelle and Franck Pascal are notable figures in the Champagne region, known for their commitment to biodynamic viticulture and producing distinctive grower Champagnes. Their estate is located in Baslieux-sous-Châtillon, in the Marne valley, close to Chatillon sur Marne1. They manage a 7.5-hectare domaine and have been practicing organic farming since around 1997-1998, with biodynamic methods implemented in 2002.
Their Champagnes are made using indigenous yeast and they produce several cuvées, including the Non-Vintage “Réliance” which is a Brut Nature blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay, and the Vintage “Harmonie” from the year 2010, which is a Blanc de Noirs consisting of only Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. Franck Pascal’s approach to viticulture is deeply influenced by his background in military engineering and his understanding of the interactions between chemical agents and living organisms, which has led him to reject conventional farming methods in favor of more sustainable practices.
Their dedication to biodynamic farming is so strong that they will sell any grapes that border vineyards treated with pesticides to prevent contamination of their wines. This level of care and attention to detail is reflected in the quality and expression of their terroir in their Champagnes2. If you’re interested in exploring their offerings, you might want to try their cuvées, which are highly regarded for their quality and representation of the Champagne region’s unique characteristics1
