Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): Cabernet Franc
Localization: Loire Valley, France
Tasting Notes: This wine reveals a less pronounced purple color than in matured wines. Scents of red fruits accompanied by floral notes. The palate is light on the fruit and without tannin, the finish has a saline side which invites you to refill yourself.
Notes: Vinification and aging: In the cellar, the grapes are entirely destemmed and then sorted again on the table before being vatted. The fermentations are traditional and in indigenous yeasts after a cold pre-fermentation maceration. The vatting is gentle and lasts an average of 8 days with pumping over and a temperature not exceeding 25% to preserve as much fruit as possible. The wines are then run off and placed in vats, maturing on fine lees and bottled the following spring.
Food Pairing: This wine will accompany your summer meals on sunny days or simply wine for wine. Served in a bucket of cool water without ice cubes, it will show up quickly in your glass. This Bourgueil can be kept in the cellar for 2 years.
The Domain: The terroir and the soils: 60% gravel on the terrace, 40% mid-slope clay. Southern exposure. Average age of the vines: 20 years. Planting density: 5000 vines / ha. Philosophy: Organic Agriculture (Ecocert Certified in 2000)
Pierre Guathier is a “vigneron’s vigneron”. While his wines are just now garnering the international attention they deserve, he has long been admired by his fellow growers. His domain comprises 18 hectares located in the village of Benais, a 200-hectare area just east of Bourgeuil. Pierre earned organic certification in 2000 and has been a quiet leader in natural farming ever since. His most recent endeavor is the rehabilitation of the historic “Clos Nouveau” in the center of Benais.
