Alcohol: 14.5%
Grape(s): Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot
Localisation: Médoc, Bordeaux, France
Tasting Notes: Richly deep with a ruby cloak, the nose on this wine is dark and sophisticated with soft aromas of blackcurrant and plum, a hint of savory herbs, and a toasty note of oak. The palate is alluringly elegant—sumptuous in size but not power, with clear, earthy-fruit character and firm tannins. Its lengthy finish shows finesse with fruit and a touch of tobacco.
Food Pairing: Red meat, BBQ, aged cheeses
Arrowine Cheesemonger's Selection: Pleasant Ridge Reserve (Wisconsin), L'Amuse Signature Gouda 48 month (Holland), Comte Symphonie 16-24 months (France)
93 Points - James Suckling: Where is that steak? This is brimming with cassis, forest berries, plus hints of wild herbs and smoke. There’s a good deal more structure and character here than most wines from this appellation. The quite fine tannins build nicely through the long finish without ever becoming too much. A blend of 50 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 50 percent Merlot. Drink or hold.
92 Points Wine Enthusiast Editors' Choice: This is a dense, ripe wine with rich black fruits. Its concentration contrasts with the good acidity and generous texture to give a wine that is a balanced blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The Domain: Built atop a fairytale 13th-century estate, Château Ramafort has consistently produced the finest Médoc Cru Bourgeois wines for over three centuries.
With Cabernet Sauvignon growing on its gravel-based soil and Merlot growing on its limestone-clay-based soil, Château Ramafort’s unique terroir delivers rich and complex wines with minimal intervention that have accrued awards and prestige around the world.
The philosophy of Château Ramafort is somewhat different to many chateaux in Bordeaux due to their unique storage capacity. In 1990, they built the largest underground cellar in the region, locally known as “The Cathedral,” where they have the ability to stock over ten separate vintages at any given time.
Château Ramafort in 1995 was the first Médoc vineyard to win the Coupe des Cru Bourgeois.
Today, vintages from 2005 to 2010 are currently being enjoyed in over 40 countries around the world.
Chateau Ramafort is part of the Group “Les Domaines CGR,” along with Château La Cardonne and Château Grivière.
