The Domain: Chateau Fleur Haut Gaussens is located in Verac, in the Fronsac region of Bordeaux. It has belonged to the Lhuillier family for 3 generations. It’s a relatively recent estate that was only selling wine in bulk. However, when Phillippe Lhuillier took over in 1990, he was the first one to introduce estate bottling.

Since then, the family has embarked on an extensive renovation program to improve the vineyards and cultivation methods. Significant investments have been made since 1997 to completely modernize the winemaking facilities. They use slow, finessed vinification processes that result in well-balanced, outstanding wines of consistent quality that continue to improve each year. The estate is 18 hectares (44 acres) in size. Estate grown and bottled. Sustainable practices. 10,000 cases are produced annually.

Their story begins in 1941 when Daniel and Catherine Lhuillier, the paternal grandparents of Herve´Lhuillier, settled at a place called Les Gaussens.

In 1976, Nicole and Pierre Lhuillier, relying on their family's heritage, created their own estate with 8 hectares in Les Gaussens. Their production was also sold in bulk.

In 1990, Hervé Lhuillier, with innovative ideas and a real desire to create a strong brand, joined the estate after his studies. He started production of the estate's first bottles.

In 1996, Herve´ took over the family business, Vignobles Pierre Lhuillier et fils, which began a decisive turning point in the family estate.

For example, he gradually enlarged the production area by choosing quality terroirs - adding 18 hectares of vines in 1996. The technical facilities were upgraded with the creation of a wine cellar equipped with thermoregulated stainless steel tanks, and a water treatment system was established. An external consultant was enlisted to reinforce the technical skills of the estate. Marketing was redesigned reflecting Hervé's  chic and trendy modernity.

In 2013, despite the historically bad year, Hervé Lhuillier began a new modernization plan resulting in a more functional warehouse was built for the storage of bottles and the tasting room and offices were completely renovated to better welcome customers and visitors. The modernization plan ended in 2017 with the complete renovation of the exterior.

In 2015 and 2016 the first single grape varietals were launched - the highly awarded, 100% Malbec, "La Viminière" and the 100% Cabernet Franc, “La Bergeronnette.”

Grand Vin, the first vintage of 2016, was sold in 2018. A mass of experience, know-how, and precision, this Grand Vin echoes Hervé Lhuillier’s fatherhood following the birth of his daughter in 2016.

In 2018, the estate embarked on a new challenge by planting its first Sauvignon Blanc vines on exceptional limestone quarry subsoil. The first harvest was in September 2020, for a bottling scheduled in spring 2021.

Today, Château Fleur Haut Gaussens can be purchased 19 countries and reflects the potential of 40 hectares of land with a passion. Thanks to the long-term work of a team with the greatest respect for the environment, their wines have found their place in the best of the AOC.
