A long finish. An elegant wine, full of promise.

Winery Story: Château de Cruzeau is a historic estate in the Pessac-Léognan appellation of Bordeaux, with origins dating back to the 17th century, later revitalized by André Lurton in the 1970s. Today, it is part of the Famille André Lurton holdings and is known for its exceptional gravelly terroir and commitment to sustainable viticulture.
Origins (17th century): The estate was founded by Jacques de Cruzeau, a prominent Bordeaux lawyer, who gave the property its winemaking vocation. By the 18th century, under Sieur Nolibois, its wines were already recognized on the Place de Bordeaux for their finesse.
Historic Recognition: Records from the 1760s and 1840s show the vineyards were well established and even classified as Grand Cru for both whites and reds in a specialized wine magazine of 1841.
Modern Revival (1973–1975): After a storm devastated nearby pine forests, André Lurton noticed the gravelly soils beneath and recognized their potential for vines. He acquired the estate in 1975, making it part of his family’s prestigious portfolio (which includes La Louvière and Couhins-Lurton).
Terroir: The estate spans nearly 98 hectares, with vineyards planted on gravelly ridges rich in rolled pebbles. This terroir is ideal for producing elegant reds (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon) and aromatic whites (Sauvignon Blanc).
Environmental Commitment: Today, Château de Cruzeau is a testing ground for biodiversity and sustainable practices. It is certified HVE 3 (High Environmental Value), the highest level of French environmental certification. Initiatives include stopping herbicide use, planting fruit trees and hedges, and managing parcels with biocontrol methods.
