Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): Pinot Noir
Localization: Willamette Valley, Oregon, USA
Tasting Notes: This pinot noir shows similar concentration to his single vineyard bottlings, with luscious black raspberry and black cherry aromas situated on a medium-bodied frame. Subtle hints of baking spice complement the ripe fruit character.
Notes: This cuvée is a blend of Holloran sites throughout Willamette including La Chenaie Vineyard (Eola-Amity Hills AVA) and Le Pavillion Vineyard (Dundee Hills AVA). Soils are volcanic, known as Jory, and farming is conducted following biodynamic principles. Grapes are processed in small lots and fermentations are followed by very gentle pressing, to provide for purity of flavors and support development of complex aromas. The wine is aged in 10% new French oak barrels for 18 months before bottling.
The Domain: In the words of Bill Holloran, he doesn't grow grapes, he "grows great wines". Believing strongly that the character and quality of finished wines are directly related to how the grapes are grown, he practices what he preaches, using both organic and biodynamic techniques in his vineyards and cellar. Holloran Vineyard Wines was established in 1999 by Bill and his wife, Eve, when they produced their first vintage out of a converted horse barn on their West Linn, Oregon property.
