Alcohol: 12,5%
Grape(s): Pinot Noir
Localization: Côte de Nuits, Burgundy, France
Tasting Notes: The wine opens with a beautiful note of ripe raspberries, red cherries with touches of the spices clove and cinnamon. There is an alluring note of truffle that floats as a bottom note in the glass, encouraging the imbiber to quaff the entire glass down just to learn its mysteries. The palate is definitely old school – the tannins are perfectly integrated but are also present – and it is clearly old-vine material. Thus, while the price may suggest a “little” Bourgogne, the palate lets you know who’s the boss. Definitely decant this 30 minutes ahead of time or hold it for three years in the cellar, and then drink for at least 10 more beyond that. This is Pinot Noir to be taken seriously, with great enthusiasm as you explore its depths.
Food Pairing: Duck, Goose, and Game Birds
The Domain: Stéphane Magnien is the current owner of the 4.5 hectare estate, whose plots are located in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey Saint-Denis and Gevrey-Chambertin covering the entire range of regional appellations in Gand Cru.
Since the very first generation in 1897, the vines have never known weedkiller, thus preserving the life of soil organisms, forcing the roots of the vine plants to descend deeply to draw a great typicity of the climates. Manual harvest, traditional vinification, aging from 14 to 18 months depending on the plots, no filtration or fining before bottling. Far from media wines, they are as we like them: subtle, structured, long and tasty in the mouth, respectful of the terroir and the vintage.
