Tasting Notes: This white Burgundy has it all. The expressive aromas take ultra-fresh, just-picked apple and citrus fruitiness and layer in orange rind, limestone minerals, and spiced pear notes. The palate has ripe, elegant fruit that builds in richness as it airs. Even with the rich fruit, though, it never feels heavy; it keeps its textbook white Burgundy freshness, minerality, and energy throughout. There's no oak, no added sugar, and no tricks in the winemaking to alter or obscure the pure, ripe chardonnay flavors. This is a white Burgundy lover's white Burgundy, with a long pure finish of apple, citrus zest, and spice along with creamy texture from the lees aging.

Notes: The Bourgogne Blanc is sourced mostly from two hectares in the "lieu dit" Champ Rond in the village of Chasselas, a village in the southern part of the Saint-Veran appellation. The soil is an unusual red limestone. It is an ideal soil for growing Chardonnay, rendering fresh and particularly aromatic wines, that are at once lively and fruited. The Bourgogne Blanc is vinified and matured for 6-8 months on its lees in stainless steel vats. No sulfur is used during the process, and only a minimal dose is added just before bottling.

Food Pairing: Partner it with crab cakes or poultry or serve it with a tray of fresh fruit, nuts, and young cheeses.

The Domain: Romuald Petit farms 7 hectares in the Maconnais and 5 hectares in Beaujolais. His Burgundy parcels are primarily in Saint-Veran with a small parcel in neighboring Pruzilly. The Beaujolais parcels are primarily in Morgon with smaller holdings in Chiroubles and Saint-Amour. Romuald’s parcels in the Maconnais, are typically Burgundian, in that they differ with regards to their soils, rootstocks and age of the vines. There are young vines (aged 5-15 years) planted by Romuald, and others over a hundred years old, planted just after the Phylloxera crisis. Each parcel produces grapes with very different qualities and thus Romuald vinifies each separately, assembling the wines (or not) only before bottling, seeking to create a wine that is as balanced as possible, while maintaining maximum expressiveness. The vineyards are farmed sustainably with no chemical fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. Gradually, plots are being converted to organic agriculture. Harvesting is done by hand.
