Tasting Notes: Consistent with previous vintages, our Gilsson Vineyard Zinfandel displays a deep garnet color, lush velvety mouthfeel, and long seductive finish.
The Domain: On the eastern edge of the Russian River Valley lies a stretch of sandy loam soil, which was planted with Zinfandel (St. George rootstock) back in 1950. This well-established site exposes our fruit to a cool morning fog that slows its ripening and concentrates its flavors. Since 2000, wine maker Michael Lancaster has worked with this vineyard to make Zinfandel. Consistent with previous vintages, our Zinfandel displays a deep garnet color, lush velvety mouthfeel, and long seductive finish.
Since our inaguaral vintage in 2000, we have sourced our award winning, bestselling Russian River Zinfandel from Gilsson Vineyard (formerly Jensen Lane Vineyard). Located east of the town of Windsor, just west of Chalk Hill in Sonoma County, the Zinfandel vines were planted in 1950 to a flat, well-drained, gravelly-loam plot. The vines are head trained and cane pruned. With the vines raised up the stakes, the fruiting area is elevated off the ground, allowing for better air circulation and more even ripening of the berries.
