Alcohol: 15%
Grape(s): 20% Grenache, 80% Syrah
Localization: Languedoc-Roussillon, France
Tasting Notes: Seductive, rich and poised, this is a treasure trove of delight on the nose. Exotic spices, pot pourri and incense meld enticingly with toast, cinnamon, cardamom and cedar. The flavours go even deeper into leather, forest floor, and then peppery black cherry fruit. A huge wine, but refined. Ferrous and bloody finish. Soft, resolved tannins.
Notes: From 37-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils. Aged in demi-muids for 12 months.
The Domain: Clos la Riviere's vineyards are nestled in a beautiful natural amphitheater, planted in terraces along its slopes. Their wines are regularly mentioned in the Hachette Guide/Bettane&Desseauve. After training as an oenologist, Jean Philippe took over the family vines in 2007, with over 18 hectares in production. They produce smooth, fruity reds, fresh and delicate white and rose wine.
