Alcohol: 13%
Grape(s): 100% Chardonnay
Localization: Rully, Burgundy, France
Tasting notes: The Rully Blanc Montagne La Folie has a perfumed bouquet with peach skin, hints of tangerine and a light, Muscat-like aroma. This blossoms in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity and notes of lime cordial and citrus peel. Whilst not the most complex on the finish, I admire its cohesion and focus—a Rully that should give several years' drinking pleasure.
The Domain: This Domaine, run by two sisters, Mireille Desmonet and Claudie Jobard, makes lovely wines in Pommard. The Cuvée Milliane is named after their grandmother, and comes from a 1/2-hectare parcel in the town of Pommard, with vines of more than 55 years of age. Claudie Jobard has an enviable pedigree when it comes to viticulture. Her mother, Laurence Jobard, is recognized as one of the best oenologists in France and was the winemaker for Joseph Drouhin for over twenty years, known for the esteemed wines she made under her father’s name (Gabriel Billard). Claudie’s father, Roger, was a pépiniériste viticole (a nurseryman producing vines), descended from generations of experts in this field that was the family business. Claudie, the 8th generation in her family, currently makes small quantities from the fruit of her family’s ancestral vineyards.
