The 2018 Shotfire Shiraz, featuring a great-looking new package, already earned 92 points from Australia’s foremost critic, James Halliday, who wrote:
“Destemmed, pressed approximately 7 days later, 14 months in American oak (40% new). Rich, layered, mocha/chocolate overtones to the black berry fruits are obvious. 92 points.” –Halliday Wine Companion, Aug. 2020.
To be as deep purple as the 2018 Shotfire Shiraz, you’d have to be Ritchie Blackmore or Jon Lord. Opulent aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, and eucalyptus are backed by spice and clove. The lush palate takes the bold fruit and adds notes of black pepper and chocolate. Subtle tannins, and smoothing oak round out this big and opulent red and pull it through to spicy, cocoa- and berry-tinged, well-balanced finish.
Great on its own, it’s also completely at home with protein—whether it’s a winter-grilled fatty ribeye or pepper-crusted lamb chops with old-school mint jelly. It would go great with creamy blue cheese and some spicy charcuterie from our deli-department, too. Already complete and ready to drink, this has the structure to last at least half a decade if you somehow let it sit around the house that long.
