Poggio Anima Il Mostro Ragana Bianco Pet Nat 2020
Conceived from child bedtime warnings in the Old World, Il Mostro draws on the inspiration of single vineyard, responsibly farmed grapes and a deft touch in the cellar of Poggio Anima and takes it a step further. The inaugural releases hail from certified organically farmed fruit from fruit hillside plantings in Abruzzo. The wines are ancestral method sparkling wines with fermentation finishing in bottle and the offerings highlighting the bright fruit flavors and salinity this estate in Chieti demonstrates.
Poggio Anima translates to ‘Hill of Soul.’ Going back to the concept of Poggio Anima we wanted to capture the ‘soul’ of each vineyard and grape. No manipulation, no water, sugar, etc. Just the pure expression of the fruit and site. I would argue that many wines have a ‘soul,’ but very few weeknight wines share this. Poggio Anima has come along to change this.
Pecorino & Chardonnay
Olivier Pithon "Mon P’tit Pithon" Rouge 2018
This fresh, supple, and easy-drinking red is noted with flavors of spicy red fruit, sweet cranberries and wet earth. Fresh and fruit-forward, this super drinkable bottle pairs perfectly with veggie burgers, duck, roast leg of lamb, and pizza. Give it an extra chill before pulling the cork.
Olivier is an adept of Biodynamic farming and as little intervention during the wine-making. From the ground to the bottle, Olivier Pithon is focused on one simple rule: making wines the most naturally possible and in the respect of the environment. Which means that not only without any chemicals but also with the environmental cycle as natural as possible, including the use of cows, bees and sowing.
Grapes: 34% Grenache Noir, 33% Syrah, 33% Mourvèdre
Winemaking: Blend of whole cluster and whole berry fermentation in concrete tanks using only the naturally occurring indigenous yeasts. Unfined. Unfiltered. No added sulphites.
Forlorn Hope Queen of the Sierra White Blend 2017
Queen of the Sierra white estate blend was grown on the Rorick Heritage Vineyard in Calaveras County at 2000’ elevation, featuring soils comprised of a layer of schist over dolomite-rich limestone. Composed primarily of Chardonnay, Verdelho, and Muscat, the wine shows all of the aromatic complexity and textural presence that are the hallmarks of wines grown on the limestone of our estate.
All fruit for our estate white blend was hand-picked. Most lots were fermented separately due to different pick dates. Individual lots were racked and blended together; they remained in neutral oak or steel tank until being bottled unfined and unfiltered. As with all Forlorn Hope wines, no new oak is utilized, and nothing was added to the must or wine (no cultured yeast, ML bacteria, water, tartaric acid, enzymes, nutrients, etc) with the exception of minimal effective SO2.
