92 points." –James Suckling, July 5, 2021: "Plums, blueberries, wild herbs, lavender and spices on the nose. It's medium-bodied with ripe, fine tannins. Round and juicy with crisp acidity and some floral character. Flavorful, fruity finish. Drink now.

Notes: Cannonau has been growing in Sardinia since the Neolithic period and is one of the most widely planted varietals on the island. Recent studies indicate that Cannonau, a varietal rich in phenols, is the wine to drink for longevity. This is supported by the fact that Sardinia has one of the world's largest populations of centenarians. Originally called Triente, Pala's Cannonau has been renamed I Fiori (the flowers) in honor of Sardinia's biodiversity. The flower on the label is an endemic plant of the island. After temperature-controlled fermentation, the wine spends 8 months in stainless steel and concrete tanks and then rests for 2-3 months in a bottle before release.

Food pairing: It pairs perfectly with grilled meats, cheeses, or on its own, anytime over the next 3-4 years.

The Domain: The Pala family's estate winery and vineyards are in southeast Sardinia, between 11 meters and 250 meters high, in the hills above the Gulf of Cagliari. They've been making wine since the 1950s. However, at that time, their focus was on bulk wine until Mario Pala recognized the potential of their unique and excellent soils and climate and the value in their old vines, some over 125 years of age.

To this end, Mario lowered yields and focused on vinifying his different parcels separately. That helped to retain the uniqueness of each of his sites. He instituted organic practices and used state-of-the-art winemaking equipment. All this helped propel him to international acclaim. His wines regularly win top awards and earn high-level ratings.
