Alcohol: 12.5%

Grape(s): Chenin Blanc

Localization: Anjou, Loire Valley, France

Tasting Notes: With a nose of pear blossom and banana chips, this fresh Chenin blanc from the Loire Valley delivers flavors of pear, orange rind and refreshing minerality. It is light to medium bodied, with a core of acidity that complements a dry finish.

Notes: The terroir soil is clayey with silty sands. Several hard limestone rocks underlie the Méron slopes up to the fault of the Loudunais. This particular soil and subsoil has good draining capacity and early ripening potential. Bottled early and stored in the cellars dug out of the tufa, where it continues to age in the bottle, protected from the light and temperature variations.

Food pairing: Fish with cream sauce, roast duck with peaches, Asian food, fresh goat’s cheese; also ideal as an aperitif wine.

The Domain: In 1957, some forty vintners joined forces to face up to economic difficulties, but what they shared was much more than just financial support. At that time, Robert, Marcel, Yvon, Geneviève and other winegrowers, all native to the same terroir and sharing the same values, planted their vineyards on the hilltop of Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg.They pooled not only their experience and their know-how, but also their dreams and ambitions. It took grit and determination to work away expectantly through the winter months before their vines bore fruit the following summer. In 2017, the Robert et Marcel cellar joined forces with the Bourgueil Cooperative Cellar.

The Bourgueil cooperative cellar was founded in 1931 by a dozen winegrowers anxious to regroup their means of production. Viticulture was going through a crisis similar to the one we are experiencing today. Until the end of the 1980s, the cooperative was a wine-making cellar responsible for redistributing wines to its members or negotiating bulk markets, in their name or on its own account.

From 1986, bottled sales developed, the cellar prospered and invested in a stainless steel and temperature-controlled outdoor vat room.
