La Follette “Sun Chase Vineyard” Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2018

Only 2 left!

Alcohol: 13.9%

Grapes: 100% Chardonnay

Location: Sonoma County, California, USA

Tasting Notes: Pale straw color. Aromas of Tarte Tatin and Gravenstein apple entice. Meyer lemon, ripe yellow nectarine, hazelnut, wet stone, and subtle brioche come through early in the palate then combine with lemon curd, key lime, and a bit of yeastiness further in the flavor profile. The zesty finish has invigorating acidity providing an electric counterpoint to the riper aromas and flavors. Viscous in nature with a rich, round mouthfeel.

Food Pairing: Poached salmon would be a delight as would thin crust mushroom pizza, pasta with a white sauce, steamed asparagus, creamy cow or sheep cheese including a Brillat Savarin.

The Domain: Vineyard Owners: The Guarachi Family

Located on a southwest facing hillside between 900’ and 1400’ feet at the confluence of where the Petaluma Gap collides with Sonoma Mountain, Sun Chase is planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in a region quickly becoming recognized for growing world-class wine. This is one of the most highly sought-after vineyards in the Petaluma Gap. Its climate is heavily influenced by cool ocean breezes but it sits above the fog line for a nice balance of heat stress on the grapevines, allowing for slow and even maturation of the fruit. In the early morning, blankets of fog often cover the plain below the vineyard; all the while the sun warms the slopes of Sun Chase as the fog burns off. Then, the late afternoon gives way to the cool winds coming through the gap, creating an exceptional environment for cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir
