Tasting Notes: Bernkasteler Lay Riesling Auslese offers a captivating and beautifully herbal nose made of pear, vineyard peach, laurel, rosemary, almond cream, candied grapefruit, orange peel, and a hint of pastry elements. The wine proves delicately smooth and juicy on the comparatively soft yet elegantly creamy palate. The finish has the usual Prüm lightness without losing anything on the complexity and precision front. This is a beautiful Auslese in the making but one which will need some time to absorb its sweetness and reveal its underlying finesse.

98 Points - James Suckling: What a beauty this is! Delicate mangosteen and red-berry nose with a hint of tropical herbs. Concentrated, racy and very focused, this is a Mosel Auslese masterpiece. Breathtaking mineral freshness at the super long finish. Drink or hold.

The Domain: For centuries the Prüm family has called the village of Wehlen home. The 33.5-acre estate consists of nearly 70% ungrafted vines. Holdings are in the best parts of the top Middle-Mosel sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube, and Bernkasteler Bratenhöfchen. The average annual production is 13,000 cases. The harvest at J.J. Prüm is always extremely late, and the wines are very long-lived.
