The Thibert Macon Fuisse has been one of the best buys in expensive-tasting white Burgundy Chardonnay in the store for years now, and the 2019 edition takes the quality to new heights. It’s 100% Chardonnay from vineyards in the Macon village of Fuisse, just down the hill from the fame vines of Pouilly-Fuisse. The wines of Fuisse normally match classic Burgundy elegance with a touch more body and richness than many other Macon sites.
The wine is nicely aromatic, serving up scents of ripe pear, yellow apple, and a hint of fresh peach with accents of toasted hazelnut and grilled fruit. There’s a nice heft on the palate with generous flavors of orchard and stone fruit, a bit of lime zest, a touch of grilled pineapple, and a nice pop of lemon and salty stone on the mouthwatering finish. Ripe and round enough for any fan of un-oaked Chardonnay, but with the precision and stoniness only fine white Burgundy can deliver. Delicious and outstanding value.
