Alcohol: 9.5%

Grape(s): Riesling

Localization: Mosel, Germany

Tasting Notes: Still quite closed, this wine already shows complexity. Aromas of Kumquat, blood orange and stone fruit, brioche and truffles as well a delicate herbal note. Slightly smoky with the very expressive minerality typical for the Doctor.

Notes: The grapes have been handpicked and carefully selected in the various areas of the vineyard. They were only slightly squeezed and then left for 24 hours to macerate before being gently pressed. The wine has been fermented without any addition of cultured yeast or enzymes for a period of four till five month. After the fermentation was completed, it was left to mature for several more months on the lees in order to gain more stability and complexity.

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: The 2017 Berncasteler Doctor Riesling Kabinett is clear, bright, fresh and still reductive on the flinty, coolish-crunchy nose that evokes crushed rocks. Silky textured and highly elegant, this is a gorgeously lush and finessed Doctor Kabinett with a long, salty and stimulatingly piquant but beautifully balanced finish. This is a noble Riesling with clear fruit and terroir expression. The sweetness is discreet, but the fruit is piquant and salty, the structure highly finessed and the whole architecture crystalline like a Gothic chapel. Highly recommended! Tasted from AP 2 18.

Food Pairing: Fabulous with fish and seafood. Great with poultry and any kind of spicy dishes.

The Domain: The internationally renowned estate Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef is located in the picturesque town of Bernkastel-Kues alongside the Mosel River. Here, estate manager Maximilian Ferger cultivates 40 acres of top notch, steep slope Riesling sites. For generations the name Thanisch has been synonymous for luxurious white wines from the Mosel. In 2015, the winery invested into a state-of-the-art estate building made of heat-insulating concrete which allows optimal storage. In the subterranean cellar, temperatures remain perfectly steady. During harvest, the wine gently flows into the respective tanks via “Free Flow” from the press hall into the cellar. The building also makes use of natural resources: rainwater is collected in two underground cisterns and use for cleaning while the winery’s photovoltaic system generates power.

Wwe. Dr. H. Thanisch Erben Müller-Burggraef is certified as FAIR’N GREEN, a holistic sustainability assessment which integrates business, environmental and societal goals. Within the scope of the holistic approach to sustainability, the entire management, the outdoor operations, the cellar management and the marketing are constantly optimized.
