Jeb Dunnuck, 97 Points- Deeper colored, the 2017 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Chaupin comes mostly from the Chaupoin lieu-dit yet always has small parts from La Janasse and a sandy part of the La Crau lieu-dit. Blackberries, ground herbs, graphite, and new leather notes all emerge from this concentrated, rich, powerful wine that stays tight, focused, and elegant on the palate. It's a killer wine, but it's going to need time.
Varietals- 100% Grenache. Vineyards planted in 1912 for the older ones.
Soil- This cuvée comes from the cold and late terroirs of Chapouin (sand), La Janasse and La Crau (sand).
Wine-Making Process- Manual harvest with sorting in the vineyard. 80% destemming then maceration for 26 days with daily manual pressing.
Tasting Notes-A beautiful bottle, archetype of the appellation, which expresses the quintessence of Grenache in its cradle of Châteauneuf du Pape. Between notes of black fruit and violets, this vintage advances in time with suppleness, with already melted tannins.
