From Burgundy's Rully appellation in the northern Côte Chalonnaise, just south of the Côtes de Beaune, this brilliant red Burgundy comes from a small plot, under 2.5 ha, of 45+ year old vines named "La Chaume". On a south-east facing slope, its soils are stony limestone-rich clays, like Burgundy's most prestigious vineyards. Yields are far lower than other producers in the area. Harvest is 100% by hand, and the fruit is rigorously sorted for quality.
The Rully "La Chaume" from Claudie Jobard has bright ruby red color. Classic red fruit aromas of baking cherries and raspberries, as well as delicate floral and spice notes, jump from the glass. The palate has fresh ripe red fruit that builds in richness as it airs. The finish is pure, rich and vibrant with long lasting fleshy-textured red fruit and spice. Energetic and delicious today, the concentration and balance suggest it will drink beautifully until it is seven or eight years old. Serve this beautiful Burgundy with game birds in morel sauce, with mustard-glazed pork tenderloin medallions, or with a juicy rotisserie chicken.
