Domaine Pierre Amiot et Fils Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru Aux Charmes 2016

Origin: It is difficult to be sure from where the word “Charmes” comes. In french the word “chaume” means a fallow field. In the Burgundian dialect “charme” likely refers to “chaume”. It could also be possible that “charmes” relates to the old forest nearby called Charmes. At the same time, the name of this appellation corresponds perfectly with the typical characteristics of this wine: elegant, feminine, charming.

Terroir: The vineyards face east-southeast at an altitude of 260m (850 feet), with rocky limestone soils of “Comblanchien” which shows on the surface, as there is very little top soil. Les Charmes are just below Clos de la Roche, and next to Mazoyères-Chambertin.


Viticulture, vinification, barrel aging: From the vineyard to the winery, each operation is adapted to the vintage to make the best wines possible and to fully express the parcel’s terroir. 33% of new oak barrels are used for the aging process.


Tasting
Color: ruby to garnet. 

Nose: aromas of red fruits and spices.
Good balance between the fruit, acidity and tannins. A delicate wine, with an elegant complexity.
This wine pairs wonderfully with light meat dishes.
The best vintages are ideally aged from 5 to 7 years to fully appreciate the wine.
