Fruit for this 2018 Côtes du Rhône grew in their vineyard near the winery in Couthézon. They harvested by hand to select the best bunches and to get them to the winery in the freshest and best condition. At the winery, they destemmed and sorted to make sure only perfect berries were used. After a gentle crush, they fermented the juice in tanks with a slow 3-4-week maceration. They then aged the wine in tanks for at least six months before bottling.
This deep ruby/purple colored blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre starts with warm notes of black olive, thyme and lavender. The palate brings bing cherry, fig, plum, anise, orange marmalade, with a touch of watermelon on the finish. The tannins are balanced, while the finish lingers and is brightened by mouthwatering acidity. A perfect food pairing would be a plate of triple cream Brie, figs, and Nueske’s bacon, drizzled with olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt. This will also be a great companion to anything from burgers to coq au vin. Enjoy it over the next 4-5 years.
