A “must try,” this 100% syrah grew in an impeccable 35-year-old vineyard on a stony hillside in the excellent Grignan les Adhemar appellation. "Secret de Syrah" is the top wine of the area’s finest grower, Jerome Roux of Domaine Serre des Vignes. After committing to low yields and organic viticulture in 2008, Serre des Vignes is now a regular Gold medal winner throughout France. After labor-intensive organic farming, careful harvesting, and rigorous sorting for quality, selected estate-grown syrah fruit was cold-soaked then fermented, followed by 12 months of aging in mostly used French oak. The result, “Secret de Syrah” has round, soft tannins, velvety texture and complex syrah flavors.
Deep ruby purple in color, this leads with fresh and vivid aromas of lavender, blackberries, plums, spices and coffee. The palate reflects the aromas, pumping out berry and plum fruit with distinctive notes of chocolate, mocha, and subtle black pepper spice. Wonderfully balanced, it is substantial without being heavy, and richly flavored while completely dry. The velvety texture makes this complex syrah a joy to drink. Serve this impressive syrah with meals ranging from rotisserie chicken to grilled steaks to a rack of wild boar. Enjoy this excellent 100% syrah over the next four to five years.
