Domaine des Lises Crozes-Hermitage 2017

Sold Out

Alcohol: 12%

Grape(s): Syrah

Localization: Northern Rhone, France

Tasting Notes: This is an appealing, pretty, fruit-forward Crozes with aromas of violets, plump blackberry, plum, licorice, and chocolate followed by a tighter palate with grainy tannins and high acidity. An accomplished, balanced, and restrained wine.

Notes: From the son of acclaimed producer Alain Graillot, Maxime. All the fruit (from 35-year-old vines) is destemmed, spending one year in old oak with a touch of new.

91 Points - Jeb DunnuckI continue to love what this estate does, and the Crozes-Hermitage Domaine Des Lises is no exception. Revealing a deep purple color as well as notes of plums, blackberries, ground pepper, and leafy herbs and spring flowers, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a lively, vibrant texture, good acidity, and an overall balanced, classy style. Readers looking for a juicy, well-made Northern Rhône Syrah to drink over the coming 7-8 years should snatch this up.

The Domain: The 5 ha vineyard of Domaine des Lises lies in close proximity to Alain Graillot’s in Les Chene Verts. The vineyard offers a similar soil type consisting of gravel and alluvial stones that are fast draining and low in clay; however, it is cooler with a later ripening period than his father’s site. Originally planted in the 1980s, Maxime acquired the property in 2004 and converted the vines to organic. He chooses traditional farming techniques to maintain low yields, avoids the use of herbicides and carefully manages the deeper root system by working solely with plough.
